The Dublin-born defender, Tony Brien, sadly passed away in hospital on Tuesday night, leaving behind family, friends, and the football community in deep grief and sorrow. The actual cause of his demise is not unknown this time. Everybody, including friends and family, is missing and remembering the cherished and loving Tony Brien, paying tributes and sending condolences to him over social media. Information about the obituary will be posted by the family soon. After joining Chesterfield from Leicester City in 1988, Tony Brien made 204 appearances, scoring eight goals.
He later played for Rotherham United, West Brom, Mansfield Town, Chester City, and Hull City. After spending six years with the team, Brien swapped places with Nicky Law to join Rotherham. Sadly, Brien’s degenerative hip medical condition, which hampered his career for some time, led him to retire at 28. Following his football career, Brien worked as a sales agent and ran a bar in Majorca for seven years before returning to England and settling in Hull. Later, he returned to sales and driving while simultaneously working as a pub manager. Brien continued to watch Chesterfield games before his health severely degenerated, and he frequently stopped by to speak with the local journalists.
